How to become rich

What do you have to do to become rich?

The Sages teach us that a person is led (by Heaven) in the direction he wishes to go, so
that if a person has a very strong will to achieve something, G-d actually arranges things in
that person’s life to go accordingly.

In Psalm 145, Ashrei, which is part of the morning and afternoon prayer services, there is a
phrase Umasbia l’chol chai ratzon, meaning that G-d provides every living being with its
desire, but we can also intend while saying this prayer, that we are requesting from G-d to
strengthen our desire for that which is truly good.

A story is told in the Talmud of a Torah student who came to study Torah because he was
promised riches. Indeed, he came to study, but eventually discovered that he wanted to
study the Holy Torah for its own sake, not in order to acquire wealth.

There is also a concept of ‘Ashir b’daat,’ meaning wealthy in consciousness. This means
having the awareness that everything in our lives is given to us by G-d, and we feel that
because of this we don’t have a sense that anything is lacking, which will be the prevalent
state of mind in the imminent final redemption.

The Lubavitcher Rebbe says that the essence of a Jew is ‘gold,’ and our generation is one
that is empowered to use wealth for good purposes.

Studying the Chassidic discourses of the Mittler Rebbe (Rabbi Dov Ber Shneori, the second
Lubavitcher Rebbe), opening the ark in shul before the reading of the Torah, and
concentrating intently on the Blessing after Meals, are among the spiritual tips
recommended for acquiring wealth, especially when the driving force is the will to use the
wealth to perpetuate the Torah way of life.

There is an entire book on the subject in Hebrewb y Rabbi Chaim Sasson, called Heve G’vir.

We at Da’at wish you much success in all your endeavors!!
