Hi.
I’m pregnant and my husband’s grandfather just passed away. I know I’m not allowed to go into the cemetery, but am I allowed to be in the room of the speeches (hespedim) before the actual burial—where the body lies?
Thank you.

In answer to your query about attending the speeches (hespedim) at the funeral before entering the actual cemetery, there are authorities who maintain that a pregnant woman should not go into a cemetery at all, but if it seems necessary, you may attend but make sure you keep a distance of at least two meters from the body.
Regarding having children attend, it is not a matter of halacha, but you need to assess how the experience may affect the child or children emotionally, and if you decide that they can handle it, discuss it with them before and after.
