Hi, My wife is adamant that she does not want to go to the mikvah.

The Rav Name: Rabbi Yitzchak Arad

Hi,

My wife is adamant that she does not want to go to the mikvah. There is nothing I can say or do to persuade her otherwise. Is there a halachic alternative? What do I do if we want to try to have children?

—Samuel

Mikvah is one of the most important mitzvot today and it is a mitzvah which you will surely get used to as time goes along, there is no alternative, one is not allowed to have relationships with his spouse if they do not go to the mikvah,

According to Jewish law children who are born without mikvah have a defect (a pgam).

Which part of the mitzvah is difficult for her? Maybe if she speaks to someone, we can alleviate he specific concern.  I recommend that she take a tour of a local mikvaot and that you jointly reach out to a local Chabad Rebbitzin.

It is important to speak to your wife and explain her the importance of this mitzvah and how important it is for both of you to fulfil the mitzvah of family purity I would recommend you both read about mikvah on mikvah.org there are many good articles there.

in general, how is your joint approach to this mitzvah and to others (shabbat kashrut).?

It is important to note that keeping family purity may seem very difficult at the beginning, but the reward is endless, and the children born after mikvah have a special blessing.
