Immersing an electrical appliance

Do you have to toivel (immerse in a mikveh for utensils) an electrical appliance like a waffle-maker?

There is much Halachic discussion regarding this matter. The preferred approach is to immerse it and allow it to dry for at least 48 hours before plugging it in. If, however, there is concern that it will be ruined, then if a Jewish electrician disassembles it and reassembles it, it is considered as if a Jew made it or finished it and then it does not require immersion. If there is great necessity, one may rely on the opinions that appliances which are only used plugged in do not require immersion.
