Walking stick on Shabbat

The Rav Name: Rabbi Boaz Yurkowitz

When it is very cold outside, my husband uses a walking stick in order not to fall. May he do so on Shabbat?

The Turei Zahav permits it and says that it is like the law for a lame person (lacking a leg), and he may use a stick. The Alter Rebbe however, writes that the above opinion must be questioned. So according to the Alter Rebbe’s opinion, one may not use a walking stick on Shabbat.
