Using “On my life” as an expression

Is there a problem in exclaiming “On my life”? I was told that this may be like swearing.

It is written that one should definitely refrain from using the expression ‘On my life’ or ‘By my life’ or any other expression that is reminiscent of a person swearing about their life. If a person wishes to lend credence to his words, he may say ‘Believe me,’ but should not overuse that expression, either.
