Jewish child with non-Jewish mother?

Can a newborn by a christian mother and a jewish father, be baptised and then convert to jew? and he will live as a jew

Our Rabbi researched this question and the answer is that generally in a case where the child is being raised by a non-Jewish mother, conversion is not effective,  however since many details need to be considered, all the details of the case need to be presented to a competent Rabbi so that he can decide accordingly.
