A person who is not proficient in Torah learning

We have a person who attends our Torah classes, but doesn’t really follow, and finds it very hard to participate. He wants to stop coming because he doesn’t understand. Is it really important for him to participate in learning if he doesn’t understand what’s being said?

Firstly, it’s written in the sources that The Holy One Blessed be He does not count the amount the Jew has learned, but rather the amount of hours that he invested in the learning. The very act of participation is worthy in itself and brings Heavenly reward. In any event, he should be persuaded—and perhaps it is a good idea to provide a framework of lighter Torah lessons for people like him, with stories and examples, etc., in order that such people also get a chance to taste the taste of Torah.
