Why is kashrut so hard?

Kashrut is very important because it involves food, which is such a basic element for every living organism. The blood, membranes, bones – actually every part of us, is formed from the food we eat. The kind of food we eat has an immediate impact on our cells and bodily functions. The Creator, in His Torah, revealed to the Jewish nation that there are kinds of food that have a negative effect on our bodies and souls, and we are not allowed to eat them. The many laws of keeping kosher are ‘spiritual hygiene’ for the Jewish soul. Every type of food which the Torah forbids could have a negative effect on the Jewish soul and hold us back from fulfilling our spiritual mission, and therefore we should not eat it.

Today kosher l’mehadrin (strictly kosher) food is available in many places world over, which enables many people to carry out the requirements of kashrut.
