A Gentile carrying a small child on Shabbat in a public area
In a place where there is no Eiruv, is it permissible to ask a Gentile on Shabbat to bring a child who is not yet able to walk by himself, to the Chabad House for the Shabbat meal, through a public thoroughfare?
Answer: It seems that there is Halachic basis for allowing the tiltul (transferring from public to private and other areas) of a child by a Gentile to the place where the Shabbat meal takes place and back home, and this applies to other matters of performing a Mitzvah or of great need. This is the accepted practice outside of Israel. However, one must not have a Gentile take the child in this manner for a walk without the abovementioned conditions.
